Level 1: Open Strings Warm-up

The Notewize Basic Guitar Course includes 20 Warm-up Exercises to get your fingers moving! This first one builds a solid foundation for your picking hand, ensuring you can accurately play all of the open strings.

Level 1: Linear Playing Warm-up

Linear Playing Warm-ups help to build coordination between your picking and fretting hands when playing on the same string. This simple but effective linear playing warm-up will have you use a 1-2-3-4 finger pattern across all 6 strings.

Level 2: Linear Playing Warm-up #1

Learning how to move your fingers in different patterns will help you to quickly learn different riffs and melodies. This Warm-up uses the finger pattern 1-3-2-4, helping you to get comfortable with skipping fingers on the same string.

Level 2: Linear Playing Warm-up #2

This Linear Playing Warm-up reverses the pattern of the last one, now using the finger pattern 4-2-3-1. Play along with this Warm-up exercise to increase the coordination between your picking and fretting hands.

Level 3: String Switching Warm-up #1

String switching warm-ups are great to coordinate your picking and fretting hand when changing strings. They can be a bit tricky at first, but get easier as your hands get more coordinated.

Level 3: String Switching Warm-up #2

This second string switching warm-up focuses on finger rolls, which will help you notes sound seamless and connected when switching strings on the same fret.

Level 4: String Skipping Warm-up #1

When playing a melody or solo, you will sometimes have to skip over a string or two. This first string skipping warm-up uses the finger pattern 1-2-3-4 as it skips over different sets of strings.

Level 4: String Skipping Warm-up #2

This string skipping warm-up uses the finger pattern 1-3-2-4, and skips between different sets of strings. Keep your hands coordinated, and try to keep track of which strings you are playing.

Level 5: Hammer-on Warm-up #1

Hammer-ons are a great alternative to picking notes on the same string, because you play the note with your fretting hand. This warm-up will get you started with playing hammer-ons from fingers 1 to 2, 1 to 3, and 1 to 4.

Level 5: Hammer-on Warm-up #2

This hammer-on warm-up is a bit more intense than the last one. This time, you will play a sequence of quarter notes and alternate between picking the string and using hammer-ons.

Level 6: Pull-off Warm-up #1

Pull-offs are great way to transition to lower notes on the same string, without having to pick the string again. This warm-up will get you started with this important technique by playing pull-offs from fingers 4 to 1, 3 to 1, and 2 to 1.

Level 6: Pull-off Warm-up #2

This warm-up contains new finger combinations for practicing pull-offs, including fingers 4 to 3, 3 to 2, and 2 to 1. This is a great warm-up to strengthen your fingers and prepare them for more lead-style guitar playing.

Level 7: String Switching Warm-up #1

String switching warm-ups are some of the best guitar finger exercises to coordinate your picking and fretting hand when changing strings. They can be a bit tricky at first, but get easier as your hands get more coordinated. This exercise is sometimes also called the "spider exercise" or "spider walk."

Level 7: String Switching Warm-up #2

This string switching warm-up is all about finger rolls. But unlike the previous finger-roll exercise, this one will have you roll to higher and lower strings. This is an essential technique for making your notes sound seamless and connected when using the same finger on different strings.

Level 8: String Skipping Warm-up #1

String Skipping Exercises are great for beginner and intermediate guitarists looking to test their coordination. This one will have you play 2 notes on each string before skipping to another string.

Level 8: String Switching Warm-up #2

This String Skipping Warm-up is a bit more complicated, as you will only play 1 note on each string before skipping to another string. Pay careful attention to which string you are playing, and practice it until you get it clean!

Level 9: Hammer-on Warm-up

There are many different intermediate guitar finger exercises that you can use as warm-ups. This finger exercise is ideal for training your hands to coordinate when playing hammer-ons from finger 1.

Level 9: Pull-off Warm-up

This is a great intermediate-level warm-up that focuses on pull-offs. Spend some time with this finger exercise to train your hands to coordinate when playing pull-offs to finger 1.

Level 10: Hammer-on Warm-up

This ultimate hammer on warm up will cover every possible finger combination. This will take your finger strength and dexterity to a new level, so practice it until you can hear each note clean!

Level 10: Pull-off Warm-up

This final pull-off warm-up will cover every possible finger combination. This will be more intense than previous pull-off warm-ups, so keep practicing until you have full control of your fingers and are continuously getting a clean, crisp sound from each note!
