Warm-up: Open Strings

The Notewize Basic Guitar Course includes 20 Warm-up Exercises to get your fingers moving! This first one builds a solid foundation for your picking hand, ensuring you can accurately play all of the open strings.

Warm-up: Linear Playing

Linear Playing Warm-ups help to build coordination between your picking and fretting hands when playing on the same string. This simple but effective linear playing warm-up will have you use a 1-2-3-4 finger pattern across all 6 strings.

Scale: Major Scale (1 octave)

The Notewize Basic Guitar Course includes all kinds of scales, including major, minor, major pentatonic, minor pentatonic, and minor blues! Check out this first scale lesson to learn a great 1-octave major scale shape that uses only 3 strings.

Chord: Open E5 Chord (2 note)

Open Power Chords are a great place to start when learning to play the guitar. They are some of the simplest chords to learn, and can be played by using just 1 finger! Check out this first Chord Lesson and learn the open E5 chord.

Chord: Open A5 Chord (2 note)

The open A5 chord is very common chord to play on the guitar, and is similar to the open E5 chord. Check out this lesson and Practice Song, which uses the open E5 and A5 chords.

Technique: Open Strings

We cover many different techniques in the Notewize Basic Guitar Course, including slides, double-stops, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and bends. This first lesson starts with the simplest technique of all, playing open strings.

Technique: Fretted Notes

This Basic Guitar lesson explores the most common technique - playing fretted notes. There's a "best method" for this, and we cover it here in this Fretted Notes lesson, with a Practice Song at the end to test your skills.
